Domaine Cassagne et Vitailles is first and foremost a story of Men, of dreams and of drive.
The friendship between Matthieu Rollin and Nicolas Seffusatti was born in the back row of an economy class in Montpellier. They spent more time with their heads in the clouds rather than in notebooks, and more time daydreaming than listening to teachers, and in the end, their entrepreneurship and their will to reach for their dreams brought them together. “Right from the start, we knew what were our goals.” All they missed was a direction…. And the first direction has been China and the import of french wines. ‘We came in through the back door and we fought to make ourselves a place. It has been a rewarding experience, a very strong and personal achievement, but we still missed something…
After 10 years spent relentlessly running after objectives we realized that time was flying by, that our children were growing and that we were slowly drifting away from our child dream : to create great wines in Languedoc. Our homeland. It was time to go back home! We founded Domaine Cassagne et Vitailles in 2015 with one ambition, to create true wines, uncompromising wines which would reflect all the richness and the diversity of Languedoc terroirs. Guided by nature, we passionately listen, observe and analyze like hard-working children living a waking dream.’

PERFECTION IN THE BALANCE
Omnipresent and fickle, balance rules our ecosystem, our wines, our life.
This search for perfection in the balance drives us and pushes us to always search for improvement and self-questioning. To us, this search for balance is part of a holistic process transcending cultural and enological principles. It is a state of mind.
Nature has this property of managing itself, recycling itself and improving itself. If we try to impose ourselves, to control nature to reach for a purely material balance based on our culture, we will most likely succeed. But at what cost ?
Our idea is that to reach the perfect balance we need to put our egos aside and admit that we cannot realistically control everything, that Man is not above nature, but a part of nature. At our level, we humbly try everyday to listen to our environment and ponder our actions in order to minimize the impact on this delicate natural balance. This, is where resides all the beauty of our work, the true value of things, of our wines, of our lives.
